Choose Again With Eyes Open

“The one you are looking for is the one who is looking.” ...Francis of Assisi Within relationships, with yourself and or others,....What is your story or (the story you keep telling yourself) willingness to experience uncomfortable thoughts and feelings in service of getting you to the process that will take you to the places you need to explore – authentically. I understand the strength and vulnerability it takes to come to therapy. Sometimes the bravest thing is just showing up. I am a teacher at heart and will take advantage of a teaching moment. I believe you can learn about self and what keeps you stuck or what maintaining factors and dysfunctions lead you to respond to your world in ways that may not work. There is a Season ..."A Time to Build Up, A Time to Break Down, A Time to Dance, A Time To Mourn, A Time for Peace"...this may be your time. Life experience has been my greatest teacher and I believe that the only way through "it" is through "it"...and that there is a season for change and healing. I believe in being authentic and curious while exploring possibilities vs labeling and judging. Knowing who we are authentically is powerful. Sometimes the authentic self gets lost, but it is there at your core. "Knowing oneself comes from attending with compassionate curiosity to what is happening within" Gabor Maté. My foundation for therapy is values based influenced by ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and EFFT (Emotion Focused Family Therapy) which emphasizes all feelings/emotions are valid and provide information. In ACT, the aim is to transform the relationship with our difficult thoughts and feelings, so that we no longer perceive them as “symptoms.” Instead, we learn to perceive them as harmless, even if uncomfortable. Ironically, it is through this process that ACT actually achieves symptom reduction—but as a by-product and not the goal. (ACT) encourages people to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting with or feeling guilty for them. Running away from any problem only increases the distance from the solution. The easiest way to escape from the problem is to solve it. We are not only what happens to us. We are the ones experiencing what happens to us.
